Match of the Century | USSR vs. Rest of the World

Larsen, Bent vs. Spassky, Boris

The "Match of the Century" took place in the Trade Union Hall in Belgrade, Yugoslavia from 29th March to 5th April 1970 and saw a USSR team take on the Rest of the World over 10 boards and 4 rounds. Reigning World Champion Boris Spassky led the USSR while Bent Larsen was on board 1 for the Rest of the World, ahead of Bobby Fischer on board 2. The time control was 2 hours and 30 minutes for 40 moves, then 1 hour for each of the next 16 moves. Both teams were allowed two reserves who could replace a player on any board, with Leonid Stein (USSR) and Fridrik Olafsson (World) playing one game each.
