Tata Steel Masters
The 2022 Tata Steel Masters is a 14-player single round-robin taking place from 15-30 January in Wijk aan Zee, the Netherlands. World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen heads the field, which includes stars such as 2020 Champion Fabiano Caruana and Anish Giri.
The time control is 100 minutes for 40 moves followed by 50 minutes for 20 moves, then 15 minutes for the rest of the game, with a 30-second increment per move from move 1. If there is a tie for first place all tied players play a blitz (3+2) playoff and, if only two players remain tied, a 2-game mini-match will be played and if still tied, they play "Sudden Death" games where White gets 2.5 minutes and Black 3 minutes. The monetary prizes will be shared evenly. Official website: www.tatasteelchess.com
