Tal Memorial Blitz

Alongside the FIDE World Championship Match, the Russian Chess Federation presents the Mikhail Tal Memorial, November 13-14 in Sochi. The Tal Memorial is a 12-player double round-robin tournament with the time control 4 minutes plus 2 seconds per move, per player. The first half begins at 15:00 local time. The second half will start at 11:30 local time. The total prize fund is USD $100,000, with a USD $20,000 first prize. Mikhail Tal, nicknamed the “Magician from Riga,” was a genius who overwhelmed his opponents with dazzling attacking chess. His 1960 match against Mikhail Botvinnik was one of the most anticipated in chess history and saw the 24 year old star emerge as the 8th World Champion.
