Grenke Chess Classic

The 2017 Grenke Chess Classic is an 8-player round-robin held from April 15-22. The first three rounds take place in Karlsruhe alongside the Grenke Chess Open. After a rest day, the remaining four rounds are played in Baden-Baden. World Champion (and defending Grenke Chess Classic Champion) Magnus Carlsen faces three Top Ten players: Fabiano Caruana, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave and Levon Aronian, while Hou Yifan, Matthias Blübaum (winner of the 2016 Grenke Chess Open), Georg Meier and Arkadij Naiditsch — who came close to winning the 2015 Grenke Chess Classic and only lost the Armageddon game — complete the field. The time control is 100 min for 40 moves, plus 50 min for 20 moves, plus 15 min for the rest of the game, with 30 seconds added each move from move 1. If players are tied for first place a rapid play-off will take place. Official website: www.grenkechessclassic.com
