The match takes place in Wenzhou, China, where Ding Liren was born, and is part of a celebration of the 20th anniversary of its designation as a "chess city". Wenzhou is a city of over 3 million people surrounded by mountains and bordering the East China Sea in the country's Zhejiang Province.
