The 16th European Women’s Individual Chess Championship is being held in Chakvi, Georgia from 13-31 May. The 11-round Swiss tournament is open to any player representing a European Chess Federation. The top ranked player is Nana Dzagnidze of Georgia, with current Women’s World Champion Mariya Muzychuk and defending Champion Valentina Gunina not among the participants. The time control is 90 minutes for 40 moves plus 30 minutes to the end of the game, with a 30 second increment from move one. The prize fund is 60,000 Euro, with 11,000 for 1st place and prize money shared equally among players on the same score. 14 places in the 2016 Women’s World Championship knockout are also at stake.
