The 17th Dubai Open Chess Tournament takes place in the Dubai Chess & Culture Club from 6-14 April 2015. The 9-round event is a strong international open, with England’s David Howell topping a 151-player field featuring 39 grandmasters and players from dozens of countries. The top 40 boards are relayed live. The prize fund is $50,000, with $12,000 for first place. Prizes are shared between players on equal points except for the Sheikh Rashid Bin Hamdan Al Maktoum Cup, which goes to a single winner. The time control is 90 minutes per player, with a 30 second increment from move 1. An 11-round blitz tournament will be held on the rest day, 10 April, with a 3 minute + 2 second time control and a $1,000 first prize. Official site: dubaichess.ae
