Carlsen-Caruana FIDE World Chess Championship
Carlsen, Magnus vs. Caruana, Fabiano
The 2018 FIDE World Chess Championship is a 12-game match taking place between Norwegian World Champion Magnus Carlsen and his US challenger Fabiano Caruana. The match starts in The College, London on November 9th and will be won by the first player to reach 6.5 points in the classical games. If those end in a 6-6 tie tiebreaks will be played on November 28th. The prize fund is 1 million euros, split 60% to the winner and 40% to the loser. If the match is decided in tiebreaks that changes to 55/45.
The classical time control is 100 minutes for 40 moves, then 50 minutes for 20 moves and then 15 minutes to the end of the game, with a 30-second increment from move 1. The tiebreaks begin with four 25+10 rapid games. If still tied two 5+3 blitz games will be played, and if drawn again up to four more blitz mini-matches will follow. If still equal, one last Armageddon game will be played, where White has 5 minutes to Black's 4, but a draw will make the player with Black the World Champion. There will be a 3-second increment from move 61. Official website: worldchess.com
