27th NATO Chess Championship
The 27th NATO Chess Championship is a 7-round Swiss tournament taking place at the Defence Academy of the UK, Shrivenham, WIltshire. It is both a team and individual tournament for Military and MOD personnel of NATO Nations. The defending champions are Germany who have won 22 of 26 previous tournament. 16 Nations are represented this year. Teams are a maximum of 6 players with the top 4 scores counting.
Team Captains, Officials and Veterans will compete as a NATO team. Last year's individual winner, Estonian Grandmaster Aleksandr Volodin is not defending his title so the competition is wide open. Players receive 120 minutes for 40 moves followed by 30 minutes for the rest of the game. Official website: www.natochess.com
