World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen is auctioning off the jacket he wore during his victorious 2018 World Championship match in London against Fabiano Caruana. All proceeds from the auction will go to the Paraguayan project Chess of Asunción, which recycles waste wood to produce chess pieces and boards so that children can play the game in schools.
You can find the auction, which runs from Monday 16th to Sunday 22nd December, at eBay:
This is a one-of-a-kind opportunity to own a piece of chess history, but it’s also for a good cause. In 2018 the Paraguayan government passed a law introducing chess into schools, but a lack of resources has since meant that almost no schools have the chessboards or pieces to make it a reality. Chess of Asunción aims to solve that problem while helping with another – the uncollected waste wood on the streets of the city. Check out this video on this unusual project:
Magnus Carlsen of course needs no introduction here. The world no. 1 and World Chess Champion has dominated the game for a decade since first becoming the top-ranked player as a 19-year-old. His latest outing was a victory in the Banter Blitz Cup over Pepe Cuenca, with the Spanish grandmaster thrilled to get a draw in the 8.5:0.5 defeat! (check out Pepe's stream here)
Amazingly Magnus recently expanded his domination beyond chess, taking a 20-point lead ahead of over 7 million Fantasy Premier League players!
We can’t guarantee any of the magic will rub off if you own Magnus Carlsen’s jacket, but it can’t do any harm! Join the auction here.
