Theme tournaments are a relatively new feature on chess24 and, starting today, we're launching them daily! Regularly scheduled tournaments will feature two different openings each day (you'll find the schedule below) and to help kick off this new activity in our Playzone, we're also happy to announce two special tournaments for this Friday and Saturday, each connected with a live show aimed at helping you learn and improve.
IMs Sopiko Guramishvili and Anna Rudolf will host a special live show on attack and defence in common isolated pawn positions. The show will be crafted around a thematic tournament starting at 17:00 CET (11:00 AM EST) in which all games will start from this position:
The dynamic duo of "Miss Tactics and Miss Strategy" will introduce viewers to the pawn structure, kibitz on the live tournament in progress and then afterwards take a slightly deeper look at a selection of the games from the tournament.
You can watch the show live whether or not you also want to participate in the tournament. If you do want to play, the tournament will appear on our Playzone Tournaments page from an hour in advance (at 16:00 CET). Sopiko and Anna explained how it will work on today's live Banter Blitz show:
A thematic tournament will also be the topic of the next Training Tuesday show, with chess trainer IM Jop Delemarre, set for December 1st. Delemarre will choose a position from a famous Kasparov game and then review games from the tournament in his live show next week. Visit the Playzone Tournaments page from an hour in advance (at 19:00 CET) to find out what the position will be.
Then tune in to Training Tuesday, December 1st live on our Shows page.
The twice daily thematic tournaments all feature 5-minute blitz games starting from particular openings and will follow this schedule (times in CET and subject to change):

Please note: There will be two tournaments each using a round-robin format limited to the first 8 players to join.
