Jan's Opening Clinic 20: Part 5

Though we all tune into Jan's Opening Clinic for the words of chess opening wisdom of Grandmaster Jan Gustafsson, in part 5 of the 20th edition the hero is a chess24 Premium user who may have discovered something that even the very best players of the Taimanov Sicilian should be aware of. As Jan comments, "what 'LogicalNonsense' has done here, casually phrased as a question, is refute the absolute main line...".

You can find Jan's earlier answers in Jan's Opening Clinic 20 here: Part 1Part 2Part 3 and Part 4, with the questions all posed under this article. And here's the latest instalment:

Apart from a refutation of the Taimanov, question are posed on topics that range from the super-solid 5.Re1 Berlin to somewhat less solid options such as the Bird (1.f4) and 1.d4 Nf6 2.g4!?, the "Gibbins Weidenhagen Gambit". No prizes are on offer for guessing Jan's answer to the question, "Is this line just bad for White?"

Once again we've added clickable timestamps that let you go straight to a question that interests you - you can also find those timestamps in the description under the video at YouTube:
