Resident chess24 opening expert and all-round chess guru Jan Gustafsson is back with his 19th Opening Clinic, so if you have a burning question on anything related to chess openings – general advice or a concrete question on one of your favourite lines – now’s your chance! As always, all you need to do is be Premium and leave your question in the comments under this article. There’s one twist this time, though, since Jan will film his answers in shorter shows rather than broadcast a single mammoth live show.
Since the last Opening Clinic Jan played his annual tournament, the Bangkok Chess Club Open in Thailand, and while - spoiler alert! - it was less than a glorious success, it was another great chance for us to witness grandmasterly opening cunning in action:
Jan didn’t pay us enough not to embed the tournament games as well, so you can also play through them using the selector below:
Let’s get to the clinic, though. The basic format is the same as for previous shows. You should:
1) Go Premium! (if you’re not already) You can try out Premium for as little as $9.99 a month and if the clinic and all our video series aren’t enough to convince you how about being able to watch 9 rounds of live commentary by Peter Svidler and Jan on the next big supertournament, Altibox Norway Chess!
2) Ask your question in the comments section below this article – one per member, please, so that Jan will be able to answer them all
3) Note the comments will be closed on Wednesday 16 May at 12:00 CEST
This time Jan won’t answer in a live show, since those shows had grown to 3-4 hours (e.g. Jan’s Opening Clinic 18) and were tough to produce, watch live, or find your answer in later. Instead Jan will film roughly 1-hour shows that will be published on our Shows page and YouTube Channel. The release of the first is planned for 17:00 CEST on Thursday 17 May.
