World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen will play Banter Blitz at 16:00 on Friday, but that’s just one of a host of events taking place around the Skilling Open, the first event on the $1.5 million Champions Chess Tour. The tournament starts on Sunday at 18:00 CET, but today and tomorrow alone we have shows with Anish Giri, Teimour Radjabov, Levon Aronian, Peter Svidler, Liem Quang Le, Sergey Karjakin, Vidit and Wesley So.
The action kicks off with Dutch no. 1 Anish Giri, who will try out some Tactics Frenzy while answering your questions.
That’s just the start of an amazing line-up.
It continues on Friday, with Banter Blitz with none other than World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen, but before that there’s some Hand and Brain, where one player tells the other what piece to move while the other player moves it. We saw with Vidit and Radjabov’s session on Wednesday that sometimes hilarity can ensue!
Here’s the schedule so far:
That’s not all that’s going on. The Russian Team Championship, a very rare team event to survive the epidemic, has begun in Sochi, Russia. Some of the players, including Daniil Dubov and Vladislav Artemiev, are very likely to appear in later Tour events. You can follow all the games here on chess24: Open | Womens
There’s also the Speed Chess Championship, with the Wesley So vs. Jan-Krzysztof Duda quarterfinal at 18:00 CET today.
