Levon Aronian’s wife Arianne Caoili has tragically died at the age of just 33 after a car accident in Yerevan two weeks ago. Initial reports suggested that her condition, while serious, had stabilised, but on Monday Levon shared the terrible news that his wife had passed away. He paid tribute to an “intelligent, hard working and joyous person that lived a beautiful life”.
Arianne Caoili played chess for the Philippines and Australia in 7 Olympiads, but also did so much more. She was a polyglot, a scholar, a TV star and seemingly always open to trying out new adventures. Together with Levon Aronian, who she married in 2017, they were perhaps the most vivid couple on the chess circuit.
All that life was extinguished by a horrible car accident just over two weeks ago. Levon rushed from Spain to be at his wife’s side, but on Monday revealed the worst possible news:
Everyone at chess24 would like to express our deep condolences to Levon and all of his and Arianne’s friends and family. May she rest in peace.
