A FIDE title open only to women, the Woman Grandmaster title is awarded to players who achieve two or more title norms (covering 27 games), requiring rated play greater than or equal to a 2400 performance against opponents with average rating greater than or equal to 2180.
Some have argued that the separate women-only titles should be abolished, and that they are unnecessary. The WGM title is roughly on par with the overall International Master title, and many players qualify for both and can choose the title with which they prefer to be identified.
