The 2014 Chess Olympiad is set to start with a bang with the Opening Ceremony in Tromsø's Skarphallen on the 1st August at 19:30.
The Opening Ceremony is a chance to celebrate how the Chess Olympiad is gathering together over 180 nations to compete in one of the world's biggest cultural and sporting events.
To help us celebrate we've selected some of the best that Northern Norway has to offer, with fine performers such as Violet Road, Lisa Stokke and Hekla Stålstrenga. The Mayor of Tromsø, Jens Johan Hjort, will preside over the ceremony.
The Olympiad will end with a prize-giving where medals will be awarded and there will be more artistic performances. The ceremony will take place on August 14 at 20:00 in Skarphallen.
