UiT becomes major Chess Olympiad sponsor

UiT – The Arctic University of Norway is a major new sponsor of the 2014 Chess Olympiad in Tromsø. Chess Olympiad 2014 and UiT – The Arctic University of Norway have become partners and in so doing are continuing their collaboration from the 2013 World Cup.

Børge Robertsen, Managing Director of Chess Olympiad Tromsø 2014, says this is a good agreement for all parties:

This agreement is worth millions. It involves competence, infrastructure and financing. The university also has a very powerful internet connection that we need. The milieu there will help to ensure that we manage to deliver the quality we should.

Børge Robertsen, Managing Director of the Chess Olympiad Tromsø 2014, and UiT Rector Anne Husebekk sign the sponsorship agreement

“This can contribute to the university gaining international exposure”

Robertsen says this is a new way of thinking when it comes to collaboration and sponsorship:

This agreement is very important. Firstly, we have in place two major sponsors, and the university is a national and international player which represents the same values that chess does. The university is also the foremost symbol of knowledge in the north, as is the Chess Olympiad.

This can contribute to the university gaining international exposure and showcasing its expertise to the world. They may also attract more students to the city.

Second major sponsorship agreement!

The Chess Olympiad Tromsø 2014 now has two major sponsorship agreements – with UiT and Sparebanken Nord-Norge.

We are well on track now, so we are very optimistic about what lies ahead. This bodes well, but we clearly want more partners to provide the boost we need at an international level.
