The Tromsø 2014 Chess Olympiad will open in spectacular style – with top-shelf Norwegian musicians and an impressive visual show!
We’re proud to present a delightful and playful array of musicians with a regional flavour: Violet Road, Hekla Stålstrenga, Inger Biret Gaup and Lisa Stokke, accompanied by a full ensemble of the Arctic Philharmonic Orchestra. The musical experience will be accompanied by a dazzling light and video show in a darkened hall – providing a thrill for both eye and ear.
The ceremony also features important events: the flag ceremony, the drawing of lots and a speech by FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov. The Norwegian Minister of Finance, Siv Jensen, will officially open the Chess Olympiad – and the charismatic Mayor of Tromsø, Jens Johan Hjort, will be the host during the festivities.
Accredited players, captains, trainers and delegates are allowed entry to both the opening and closing ceremonies. Participants are welcome to bring their national flags.
