PARTICIPANT COLLAPSES IN PLAYING HALL
A male player born in 1947 collapsed today at 15:30 (3:30 p.m.) during his game in the Chess Olympiad playing hall. The man was a member of the Seychelles Open team.
The Red Cross was present in the playing hall and quickly undertook emergency first aid, including the use of a defibrillator. An ambulance arrived shortly afterwards and continued emergency care. The player was then taken to University Hospital North Norway (UNN) in Tromsø.
The organisers have not received any confirmation of the man’s health status from the hospital.
The Olympiad organisers have extended an offer of counseling from health personnel and members of the Tromsø psycho-social team to anyone involved in the situation.
