Sun Concerts
The bright and mild summer nights are perfect for evocative music. Add in the majestic architecture of the Arctic Cathedral and everything is set to experience some memorable moments. A varied programme comprises soloists, piano music, trumpets and saxophones – as well as indigenous Norwegian folk instruments, choirs and organ music.

Lounge
The official chess café Driv invites you to relax in the Live Lounge. Hot and cold dishes and drinks are available at reasonable prices for all accredited participants. You can also play chess and follow the live international broadcast on a big screen – with comments from the Chess Olympiad’s commentator team.

The Art Museum of Northern Norway presents “Queen’s Gambit”, inspired by the Tromsø 2014 Chess Olympiad. The exhibition displays works from the museum’s collection linked to the game of chess – with the focus on players, tactics and battles. Contemporary art is emphasised, with artwork such as sculptures, photography and paintings. Free entrance all days.

The
Karpov Collection
Tromsø University Museum presents “The Karpov Collection” – an exhibition of ex-World Champion Anatoly Karpov’s chess stamp collection. In Karpov’s collection are stamps from almost every country in the world, all with a chess theme. The museum has also set up a display case about chess, Sakko and other board games – with highlights of the history of the games in Northern Norway. Apart from this collection the museum provides a cross-section of the culture and nature of the north through various exhibitions.

Gallery with Chess Olympiad artist Reddy
Pop-Up Gallery with Chris Reddy’s artwork on sale at
Nerstranda Shopping Mall. There will be various activities during the Olympiad,
with Reddy’s chess pieces visible around the entire mall. Reddy’s Chess
Olympiad art can also be seen on the airport control tower, the
Chess Olympiad arena, Thon Hotel, The Edge Hotel – and on the streets all
around town.

Cave
concert with folk music
In connection with the Tromsø 2014 Chess Olympiad, a bus tour will be arranged from Tromsø to the folk music festival Kalottspel in Målselv. Tickets for the trip include transportation, a two-course meal at the traditional and historic Rundhaug Guesthouse – and a magical concert with the festival artist of the year, Sami singer Niko Valkeapää, with Georg Buljo on guitar.
The concert takes place in a cave near the hotel. A truly unique experience – made possible by the cooperation between the Tromsø 2014 Chess Olympiad, Bussring, Rundhaug Guesthouse and the Kalottspel Festival.
Date: 07.08.
Travel times: The bus leaves at 16.00 from Prostneset in Tromsø, and returns to the same location at 23.00. It’s about two hours’ drive each way.
