New Zealand Open

The 2016 New Zealand Open is the 123rd edition of a national chess championship dating back to 1879. The 9-round Swiss tournament takes place from 2-10 January in the New Zealand National Chess Centre in Devonport, a seaside village close to Auckland. Nigel Short is the top seed. The players have 90 minutes to make 40 moves followed by 30 minutes for the rest of the game, with a 30-second increment from move one.
