British Knockout Championship

The 2018 British Knockout Championship is a 12-player knockout taking place alongside the London Chess Classic at Google HQ and the Olympia Conference Centre from 8-17 December. Mickey Adams and David Howell are among the players fighting for a £15,000 first prize, with £10,000 for the runner-up, £6,000 for losing semi-finalists, £2,500 for losing quarter-finalists and £1,250 for those losing at the preliminary stage. The prelims and quarter-finals are 2-game matches with 90 minutes for all moves and a 30-second increment from move one. If the matches are tied two 10+5 blitz games are played, then an Armageddon game, where White has 5 minutes to Black's 4, but a draw counts as a win for Black. A 2-second increment is added only from move 61. The semifinals and final/3rd-place matches consist of eight games, two classical (worth 6 points, 100 min for 40 moves + 60 min + 30 sec/move), two rapid (4 points, 25+10) and four blitz (2 points, 5+3). In case of a tie, a rapid mini-match (10+5) and an Armageddon game (5 vs 4) will be played. Official website: www.londonchessclassic.com
