Aeroflot Open

The 2015 Aeroflot Open sees the return of the world’s most formidable open, held as a classical event for the first time since 2012. The 9-round Swiss tournament takes place in the Cosmos Hotel in Moscow from 27 March to 4 April. There are three rating groups, with the A section featuring top seed Mamedyarov, five more 2700 players and dozens of strong grandmasters. The top prize is not only 18,000 EUR but also a place in this summer’s Dortmund supertournament. The time control is 100 minutes for 40 moves, then 50 minutes for 20 then 15 for the rest of the game, with a 30 second increment from move 1. The tournament is organised by “Aeroflot – Russian Airlines”, the Russian Chess Federation and the Association of Chess Federations.
