Ok, now we are not discussing website policies anymore. After today, it's oficial that the 2018 candidates' tournament players shall be Shakryar Mammedyarov and Sasha Grischuck (GP), Levon Aronian and Ding Liren (World cup), Fabiano Caruana and Wesley So (ratings), Kramnik (wild-card) and Karjakin (winner of previous candidates tournament). I do think it is unfair to reserve a spot for Karjakin as he had his prize in last year's world title opportunity, but such are the rules. Very sad for MVL, though. As for disappointments, I never expected Nakamura or Giri to be out so early. First candidates in many years without Vishy Anand too. Regarding favourites, I do think Levon is playing incredibly well and Kramnik has tons of experience. Shakryar Mammedyarov is always a fighting player, and he won't be on Karjakin's corner this time. Notwithstanding, apart from his lack of experience (together with Wesley So), I am assuming Ding Liren can be a surprise. Rooting for Levon and Kramnik, though. Tough match opponents for Magnus Carlsen, they would be.
